No, you cannot get a shiny surface. Internal stain must be overlaid with translucent porcelain.

Can I mix internal stain powder like Body Modifier, mixing it with Body, Enamel and forming, and then baking it as normal.

Solution / Answer

Yes you can, but do not use ILS liquid; it cannot be used with unbaked porcelain.

Problem / Question

After Internal Stain what is the proper thickness of Translucent Porcelain.

About 0.3mm. If you build-up the first application of Body and Enamel so that before baking it is that same size as the desired final size, after it is baked it will have shrunk and you will have the about right amount space.

Can we mix Internal Stain Liquid and External Stain Liquid?

No, ILS Liquid is oil based and Super Stain Liquid is water based.

Problem / Question

We wanted a more subtle effect so we mixed extra liquid before applying the stain. But The shade did not come out like we expected. After baking it became dark.

Cause

Compared to Internal Stain, external stain transmits less light, and has very strong chroma so it is difficult to control with liquid.

Use Noritake ILS Bright powder to dilute the chroma.

It is difficult to apply because of the graininess of the powder. What is the best technique for applying the material?

Cause

There is porosity in the soldered area.

Solution / Answer

Before you mix the stain and the liquid, spread the powder out on a palette and separate the larger particles into smaller ones by crushing them. If you buy a Noritake Internal Stain Palette it is easy to grind because it has a glass rod for crushing the powder.

It is difficult to apply a smooth even coat. What is the best way to do this?

Be sure to mix the stain as described above. Then, add a little more liquid and vibrate slightly (as if condensing).

The color is too strong.

Solution / Answer

Use ILS Bright to reduce the chroma by dilution.

Apply ILS over the opaque rather than over the Body/Enamel bake. (In the instruction book the examples are exaggerated to illustrates the points being made.

When I use Internal Stain, I frequently get bubbles.

Cause

The surface on which the stain is applied was not prepared properly.

Solution / Answer

Grind just enough away to get a fresh surface using a green stone or sandblast with alumina before cleaning thoroughly.
